Although getting 2 promotions within 4 years, I still decided to find a new job. Because I thought the company was unfair.
In 2005, I got an opportunity in a multinational company. I passed all interviews, and set my salary bottom line this time at minimum RMB 10,000. When the HR rep asked me my expected salary, I push back to ask how much they could offer for this position; she told RMB 10,500, I accepted it without any hesitation. But I regretted very soon after I signed the offer letter because I learned this company had high possibility to offer me at RMB 12,000.

“Know your value” is the key concept to figure out how much you worth and the reasons. This will help us to avoid selling yourself short. I found it’s difficult to identify my advantages and values, which differentiate me from other candidates. Golden idea 3 - Always be prepared

Be confident in the negotiation. More confidence can come from well preparation and the objective self assessment. Also, be light hearted, relaxed and respectful, which implies your confidence too.
Timing Negotiate salary in the right time with the right person, although it needs some wisdom to identify when the right time is and who is the right person, if the organization is giant.
WIN-WIN thinking Try to establish a WIN-WIN relationship between the employee and the employer. Do not use an ultimatum with an employer. Always leave yourself an open door for the employer to think things through. You may think it as simple, but we are kind of easy to make such mistake sometimes.
Make good use of head hunters when we’re seeking for a job or negotiating our salary There are a lot more good points in the book actually…and I can’t list them all here. If possible, try reading the book by yourself and explore the treasure that may be helpful for your whole working life!
