Salary Negotiation In the Midst of Financial Crisis

Salary Negotiation In the Midst of Financial Crisis

While it is pretty well understood that the US economy is in the midst of financial crisis, and that economic slump is having ripple effect in neighboring countries and with other trading partners, recent studies have shown that in many companies and employers there is still room for salary negotiation.

This is crucial to remember, and you need to know your strategy to approach salary negotiation at this sensitive time.

Don’t shy away from salary negotiation if it is the right time for you.  While many companies are slowing down or reducing staff levels, other companies are in need of top talent.  You should keep this in mind.  There is still an opportunity to discuss salary negotiating with your employer, or to negotiate your salary offer with new employers.

When you negotiate salary, you are standing up for what you believe you are worth.  You are standing up for yourself because your skills and the job market will support the price you are asking.  You really need to do your diligent research to assess this salary negotiation tactic.

Be prudent in the salary negotiation tact you use.  Employers will respect you when you approach them with a softer, less intense approach.  Now is not the time to play salary negotiation hardball unless you're one of the elite few that command top dollar in this tough market.

Salary negotiation in these times is still an option.  Not only that, but if you find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of being between jobs, salary negotiation skills and strategies are of critical importance to you.

So remember, don't dismiss the notion of salary negotiating just because the economy is in a slump.  On the contrary, look for the right approach, do your market research and build your supporting case.

To your total salary negotiating success!
